How do you migrate only selected PST data to Office 365?
I’m planning a PST migration where we don’t want to move every historical email into Microsoft 365. Some users have years of archived messages, and importing everything would add unnecessary data.
Microsoft 365’s Import Service now provides filtering options for PST imports, including filtering by item age and message type.
I’ve also been looking at DRS Softech PST to Office 365 Migration Tool. It provides date filters and additional filtering options so you can select the data that actually needs to be migrated. There’s also a preview option, which seems useful for checking the PST contents before committing to the migration.
Another useful option is migrating emails without attachments. For older archives where attachments aren't required, that could reduce the amount of data going into the Microsoft 365 mailbox.
How are other admins approaching selective PST migration? Do you filter based mainly on date, folders, message types, or something else?
