Direct Access to Files Within a Document
The current version of Docuware relies on PDF file structures but there are a great number of clients that have TIFF and DWTIFF images that are all each treated as a single clipped file in a Document. This creates a big problem for the users who wish to go directly to an image within a file with a large number of pages.
There are 2 solutions both of which I think need to be applied to Docuware as they both solve multiple problems.
1: Build a Pre 6 DW document to PDF file conversion workflow. This would allow clients with a very large number of very large documents to define a filter to convert exiting IMAGES to PDF. I have 1 client with 36 million images in there system and a very large number of those document have 1000 pages.
2: ADD a goto File in the same manner that the GOTO PAGE does. This will allow anyone with a large number of files clipped to jump to a specific file. This will be a useful tool as Docuware gets larger and users continue to clip more and more files together.
In short, it takes a VERY long time to move from file to file and in a larger document with 1000 files it takes an unacceptable length of time to move about.
Convert to PDF fixes a great deal of this issue, adding the GOTO FILE function will help as others start to add more and more files to produce documents.
